Last June, 18ten’s Board of Directors unanimously agreed to begin the search for a full-time Program Administrator. The Board decided to seek out a unique and well-rounded individual that could: 1) help manage our current partnerships in Nicaragua and establish new ones in other areas of Central America; 2) effectively and regularly communicate the progress and struggles of these ministries to 18ten’s supporters; and 3) handle many of the necessary administrative functions involved in running a non-profit. After much prayer and searching, we are excited to announce the hiring of our first employee: Samantha Lingamfelter. As our first and only paid employee, we first tasked her with introducing herself to you:

It was always clear to me that I loved Spanish. Growing up, I enjoyed learning about the language and Latin-American culture. Even today, I still enjoy memorizing Spanish pop songs and watching TV series in Spanish. This passion eventually led me to serve as an English teacher at a Christian Academy in Nicaragua for 1.5 years, which then led to another year as the Children’s Ministry Coordinator for a church in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Last spring, I sensed my time living in Nicaragua was coming to a close, and returned to US soil in August of 2017.

The year and a half as a teacher in Nicaragua allowed me to see God working in, around, and through private Christian education to empower not only students, but also their families and communities. The time serving in the church helped me see how the local church is also bearing fruit in Nicaragua.

It was a true joy to see how God captured the hearts of his children, and I trust that many of those children will grow up to be strong leaders for Christ—much like the children part of Oasis de la Gracia. I’m thankful for these experiences, and am overwhelmed by God’s goodness in giving me yet another opportunity to serve a people group I love so dearly through this new role at 18ten.

I look forward to seeing how God will use what He taught me through previous ministry experiences to continue serving Him and those He loves while I learn even more from Him along the way!
